16-inch MacBook Pro

2021 vs. 2019

The new 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro was unveiled on October 18 during Apple's "Unleashed" event.

The 16-inch MacBook gets a more powerful version; The new silicon will also make the MacBook more energy efficient, providing longer battery life on a single charge.

And in the all-new Apple M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets, to push the MacBook to new heights with more performance upgrades, in line with Apple's goal of moving away from Intel in favor of its own CPU.

This should meet the needs of customers who are looking for high-performance devices.

While Apple's latest-generation 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019) includes an Intel Core i9 CPU with a larger discrete graphics model and eGPU capability.

In this blog, we will compare the Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch (2019) with the Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch (2021)!

You'll be able to tell which one you should buy. By understanding the distinctions between characteristics such as CPU performance, graphics performance, design, display, camera, storage, connection, battery life, physical dimensions, and other aspects.

CPU Performance

The new MacBook Pro 16-inch 2021 is equipped with the most recent Apple M1 Pro and Max.
as well as a 10-core CPU with eight high-performance cores and two energy-efficient cores, and over 33.7 billion transistors.
However, The previous-generation 16-inch MacBook Pro 2019 There are three Intel CPUs available for installation: the 2.6GHz 6-core Core i7, the 2.3GHz 8-core Core i9, and the 2.4GHz 8-core Core i9. with each core being a performance core.
The MacBook Pro 16-inch 2019 has the same number of performance cores as the new MacBook Pro 16-inch 2021.
where The two additional efficiency cores on the MacBook Pro 16-inch 2021 handle many of the low-priority background tasks that the eight-core Intel Core i9.

For single-core Geekbench testing, the Intel CPUs are fairly close, with the six-core version getting 1,011 points, the 2.3GHz Core i9 scoring 1,062 points, and the 2.4GHz Core i9 scoring 1,088 points. There is greater variation in multitasking, with the Core i7 managing 5,295, the lower Core i9 at 6,518, and the upper at 6,825. When compared to the M1 in the 13-inch MacBook Pro, which earned 1,705 points in the single-core test and 7,382 points in the multi-core version, Apple claims that the new M1 CPU is capable of 2.1x faster project builds in Xcode and 3x faster computational fluid dynamics performance in NASA TetrUSS.
If Apple's claims are correct, the M1 Pro and M1 Max will be excellent performers.

Graphics Performance

The last-generation MacBook Pro 16-inch 2019 employs a discrete GPU, beginning with a Radeon Pro 5300M with 4GB of GDDR6 memory, followed by a Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6, and finally a Radeon Pro 5600M with 8GB of HBM2 memory.

The Apple M1 Pro CPU in the MacBook Pro 16-inch 2021 chip, on the other hand, has 16 GPU cores, which is more than double the number of Apple M1 cores. The M1 Pro GPU calculates a clock speed of 1.26GHz for a GPU running at 30W, which is quite fast.

The M1 Max has a 32-core GPU that is seven times quicker than PC integrated graphics at the same power level. It operates at 100W, making the overall clock speed impossible to measure precisely.
It can outperform discrete graphics cards while consuming 70% less power. But, for the time being, let's simply presume it'll be a massive graphics processor.

In terms of visual output, Intel can support two external monitors with a resolution of 6,016 by 3,384 pixels or four external displays with a resolution of 4,096 by 2,304 pixels at 60Hz.
While Apple's Apple Silicon processors do not presently support eGPU enclosures, support for Intel-based Macs is still available.
It effectively implies that Intel models may upgrade their graphics capabilities with an eGPU as long as Apple continues to support them.

The M1 Pro has the ability to output up to 60 frames per second to two external 6K monitors. The M1 Max goes a step further by enabling three 6K displays and a fourth 4K monitor at 60Hz.

Design

The 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro maintains the same muscular silver body as the previous MacBook Pro, while the 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro retains this design with slight tweaks around the edges.

Both models have six audio speakers, including force-canceling woofers, "widescreen stereo," and Dolby Atmos support.
In a directed beamforming array with an excellent signal-to-noise ratio, three "studio-quality" microphones are used.
as well as a lighted keyboard and a Force Touch control pad

While the Touch Bar with Touch ID is present on the MacBook Pro 16-inch 2019, the new version foregoes the Touch Bar in favor of full-size function buttons and a dedicated Touch ID button in the top-right corner.
The new version 2021, on the other hand, includes three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI connector, an SDXC card slot, and a MagSafe 3 port, while the 2019 model has four Thunderbolt 3 USB-C connections, leaving plenty of room for additional accessories.

Display

The MacBook Pro 16-inch 2019 boasts one of the finest laptop screens ever, with a 16-inch, 3,072 x 1,920 Retina display with backlit LED and a broad color P3 range.

The display on the new 16-inch model has been significantly improved by Apple. Because it is larger and has a diagonal of 16.2 inches, the Liquid Retina display has a greater resolution of 3,456 by 2,234 pixels.   Apple is transitioning to tiny LED displays, which use a huge number of smaller micro LEDs to replace a small number of bigger LEDs. for the most fluid visuals

You'll receive a lot brighter display with 1,000 nits of brightness, 1,600 nits at peak, against the old screen's 500 nits at peak, thanks to thousands of light sources. You'll also get a more colorful and accurate picture on the tiny LED display than in the previous version.

with a ProMotion display, automatically adapt its refresh rate up to 120Hz. The previous model maxed out its refresh rate at 60Hz.

Camera

The webcam on the 16-inch  2019 is a conventional 720p FaceTime HD camera, offering consumers a very basic image device for use in video chats.

that comes standard with virtually every laptop on the market, with the noteworthy exception of the 16-inch  2021 with its full 1080p camera, which is further enhanced with greater low-light performance and is computationally aided.
The MacBook Pro may improve the sharpness and overall video quality even more by utilizing the M1 image signal processor and the Neural Engine.
This makes it one of the best Laptop webcams available anywhere.

Storage & Connection

When it was first released, the 16-inch  2019 version had up to 64GB of RAM and 8TB of SSD storage, making it a beast of a machine that is still one of the most powerful laptops available today. This is also true for the 16-inch 2021 version.

For improved performance, Apple has updated the wifi connection from 802.11ac to Wi-Fi 6, commonly known as 802.11ax. There are benefits, such as native dual-band connectivity, power savings, and enhanced speed, but you'll need the right network equipment to make use of them.

Apple's MacBook Pro line continues to use Bluetooth 5.0, which is a reliable and well-worn standard

Battery Life

During Apple's launch event, the firm said that the next 16-inch MacBook Pro (2021) would finally have FastCharge technology, which will allow it to charge from 0 to 50% in 30 minutes (when using a 96W USB-C power adapter, not 67W), which is the equivalent of a whole workday for most of us. From the same 100-watt battery, you can get up to 14 hours of wireless web access or 21 hours of Apple TV app movie playback when fully charged.

where The battery life on the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019) is up to 11 hours and 41 minutes of continuous 1080p video playing, which is outstanding given the circumstances.

conclusion

The new Apple Silicon 16-inch MacBook Pro looks to be a reasonable upgrade choice for many existing Intel MacBook users based on the list of enhancements.

With the 16-inch MacBook Pro upgrade, Apple has not only moved that high performance to the premium laptop level, but it has also improved on it.

The only big disadvantage is the appearance of the dreaded notch, which isn't really an issue because owing to the MacBook Pro's significantly larger display, the notch is visible but has little influence while using apps.
